**1. Alphabet and Writing System:

  • Turkish uses the Latin alphabet, consisting of 29 letters. It is written from left to right.

**2. Phonetics and Pronunciation:

  • Turkish has a phonetic system where each letter corresponds to one sound. Pronunciation is generally straightforward once you understand the phonetic rules.

**3. Vowel Harmony:

  • Vowel harmony is a significant feature in Turkish. Vowels in a word harmonize, meaning they are either front or back vowels, depending on the vowels in the word.

**4. Agglutinative Language:

  • Turkish is an agglutinative language, which means that affixes are added to the root of the word to convey meaning. This leads to a highly regular and logical system of word formation.

**5. Subject-Object-Verb Word Order:

  • The typical word order in Turkish is Subject-Object-Verb (SOV). For example, “Ben kitabı okurum” translates to “I read the book.”

**6. Vowel and Consonant Harmony:

  • In addition to vowel harmony, there is also consonant mutation in Turkish. The final consonant of a word can change based on the beginning sound of the following word.

**7. Postpositions:

  • Turkish uses postpositions rather than prepositions. For example, “evde” means “at home” where “ev” is the house and “de” is the postposition.

**8. No Gender in Nouns:

  • Turkish nouns do not have grammatical gender. There is only one word for “he” or “she,” which is “o.”

**9. Turkish Plurals:

  • Plurals are generally formed by adding “-ler” or “-lar” to the noun, depending on vowel harmony. For example, “ev” (house) becomes “evler” (houses).

**10. Verb Conjugation:

  • Turkish verbs are conjugated based on person, tense, and mood. The verbs in Turkish come at the end of the sentence.

**11. Loanwords:

  • Turkish has borrowed words from various languages, especially Arabic and Persian, due to historical interactions.

**12. Politeness Levels:

  • Turkish does not have formal and informal forms of “you” like some other languages. Instead, respect is shown through politeness in speech.

**13. Common Phrases:

  • Useful Turkish phrases include “Merhaba” (Hello), “Teşekkür ederim” (Thank you), “Evet” (Yes), and “Hayır” (No).

**14. Language Learning Resources:

  • For learning Turkish, you can use language courses, apps, books, online platforms, and language exchange programs.
